How to identify sustainable materials for construction

How to identify sustainable materials for construction

In construction, sustainable materials are those in which, for their production, installation and maintenance have been carried out with a low level of environmental impact. They must be durable, reusable or recyclable. At each stage of the building’s life cycle, comfort and quality of life must be increased, while the impact on the environment on economically viable projects must be reduced.
Pipe installations are often the forgotten projects, but they also have an impact on the environment. In order to make a decision regarding its impact, we recommend that you look at the following characteristics when deciding on one or another material:

– the emissions of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) that the product can produce, since these are highly polluting and harmful to the ozone layer, as it is the case of PVC. This is why it is important that construction products have an optimal fire reaction rating.

– the generation of waste that materials can produce, therefore, it must be taken into account if the product can be recycled or reused.

– an analysis of the life cycle of the product allows observing the different environmental impacts linking them to each of its stages, from the choice of materials, manufacture of the product, transport, installation and durability or useful life.

– the energy consumption of the products throughout their life cycle is a clear indicator of environmental respect and sustainability.

At ABN we have acquired a commitment to the environment, offering our clients products in which we use recycled materials if the regulations and application permit, we eco-design our products so that they can be reused after their useful life, we create technical safe, fast and economic assembly and we strive so that our products have the minimum environmental impact during their life cycle.
